Her passion is to create the most optimal environment for your body to heal, rediscover alignment and to have total freedom from pain or restriction. Through treatment she aims to enhance your everyday life and performance and to reduce your risk of injury. Her goal is to guide you and your body to find centre again through utilising a blend of treatment methods (both modern and traditional), such as hands on manual therapy and postural/gait analysis, alongside movement strategies to facilitate the best solutions for change within your body. Kirsty has always been passionate about gaining a deeper understanding of the human body so has completed a number of courses to become qualified in Anatomy in Motion, Functional Range Conditioning (FRC), Rocktape Fascial Movement Taping and Myofascial Release to name a few. Her experience ranges from ski boot fitting and bike fitting to working as a sports therapist with rugby teams, in private physiotherapy practices and in the NHS as a physiotherapy assistant (for Outpatients MSK, The Pain Management team and The Hydrotherapy team). Allowing her to work with a variety of people from post-surgery clients to athletes, helping with a range of issues from sports injuries to total knee replacement rehab. Kirsty understands the importance and interconnectedness of the body and mind in relation to rehabilitation, and believes in an individualised approach to healing in order to help clients re-take control of their own function and achieve long-term results. I believe the osteopathic treatment enabled me to regain most of my physical ability to compete in sport. It was this experience that helped motivate me to complete the rigorous training programme to be an osteopath at Oxford Brookes University. I love being an osteopath as it’s a medical discipline that looks at the system of the body as a whole. Often osteopathy can provide answers to managing long term physical problems that prevent us from enjoying our physical or sporting lives. It is also rewarding to see patients learn to manage long term problems that they had previously just been treating with higher and higher doses of pain killers! I treat musculoskeletal injuries from a broadly structural perspective but employ other techniques, and advice whenever appropriate. In private practice I have been fortunate to experience a wide variety of issues from the typical back pain to clicky jaws! It’s true to say that every patient brings their own challenges to the treatment table. I passionately believe that we are one of only a few medical disciplines that change what we do based on the patient’s individual needs. When I’m not treating patients, I still manage to find the time to get out on my bike, knock holes in my house or climb mountains with the eldest of my three young children. More About Kirsty Medical History Our therapists will greet you as you arrive and ask you to complete a medical history form. It is a good idea to bring a list of any medications and supplements you are taking and copies of any relevant documents like X-rays or scan reports. Talking and Listening You will then be taken through to a consulting room by your therapist. They will discuss your condition and medical history and listen to your concerns. They may ask about your work, home and lifestyle to understand more about you. Movements and Tests Following this discussion your therapist will then assess you to observe how you move, look at your posture and get an idea as to what is causing your problem. The therapist may also test how your nerves are working, take your blood pressure or perform specialist orthopaedic tests to see what the cause of your pain might be. Collaboration and Treatment Plan The next step is to discuss with you their findings. This may include not only what they think is happening, but also what treatments they think may help and what other tests/ scans you may require. They will also inform you if they feel osteopathy or soft tissue therapy is not appropriate for you, or if further investigation is needed before treatment commences. There will usually be time left to both start some treatment and provide you with advice on how to look after your condition. Please note that sometimes most of the initial visit may be taken up with case history taking and examination, especially if the history is a complicated one. What to Wear It is generally a good idea to wear loose and comfortable clothing, as long as we can see the spine or the area that is to be treated. Sometimes shorts or crop top may be appropriate to help with this. Please feel free to bring a family member or friend with you.
