Chiropractors are trained to diagnose, treat, manage and prevent disorders of the neuro-musculoskeletal system (nerves, bones, joints, and muscles), as well as the effects these disorders can have on the nervous system and general health. Chiropractors have a specialist interest in neck and back pain, but when they assess patients, they take their entire physical, emotional and social well-being into account. Chiropractors use a range of techniques to reduce pain, improve function and increase mobility, including hands-on manipulation of the spine. Offering a package of care which includes general health and nutritional advice, self-help techniques, functional/ergonomic exercises and positive lifestyle changes. Chiropractic treatment involves safe, gentle, specific manipulation to joints of the spine or other areas of the body that are not functioning correctly. Aside from manipulation, chiropractors may use a variety of other techniques including ice, heat, exercise and acupuncture. Although chiropractors are best known for treating back and neck pain, patients also consult chiropractors regarding a wide range of conditions, such as: Ankle sprain (short term management) Elbow pain and tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) arising from associated musculoskeletal conditions of the back and neck Headache arising from the neck (cervicogenic) Inability to relax Joint pains including hip and knee pain from osteoarthritis (OA) as an adjunct to core OA treatments and exercise General, acute & chronic back pain Generalised aches and pains Mechanical neck pain Migraine prevention Minor sports injuries and tensions Muscle spasms Plantar fascitis (short term management) Rotator cuff injuries Sciatica Shoulder complaints (dysfunction, disorders and pain) Laser What is MLS Laser Therapy? MLS Laser therapy is a completely safe, non-invasive, and painless method of managing acute or chronic pain and inflammation including in the cases of arthritis or injury. The laser supplies light energy directly to your cells which encourages your body’s own healing process and reduces pain. MLS Laser can be used in the treatment of a variety of issues including: Tendinopathies Plantar fasciitis Sciatica & Neuropathy General aches and pains Ligament sprains & Muscle Tears Bursitis How Does it Work? The MLS laser delivers two light wavelengths, 808nm and 905nm in a synchronised manner. Because the stronger 905nm wavelength is nano pulsed (this means it pulses on and off rapidly), any risk of thermal damage to your tissue is removed and the laser is completely safe to use. The 808nm wavelength targets tissue repair and regeneration and the 905nm wavelength has an analgesic effect and targets pain and inflammation. What Can I Expect? After an initial assessment to diagnose your issue and develop a treatment plan, we will begin your course of laser therapy. Your clinician will decide the appropriate settings for your condition and then the laser will be placed on or directed over the area of pain or injury. Once the laser is started you will most likely only be aware of the feeling of the wand moving across your skin or in the case of laser which is not in contact with your body, you may not feel anything. This can be strange as we expect to feel something (often pain!) as a method of healing. Trust us, the laser works without causing you any discomfort at all. Your treatment will usually be anywhere between 5 and 20 minutes long depending on your issue and the treatment protocol required. How Many Treatments Will I need? Laser treatment is cumulative which means each treatment builds upon the effects of the last. Generally, we work on an initial course of 6 sessions carried out at 2 sessions per week. Acute conditions may need fewer treatments with chronic issues potentially requiring more. How Much do Laser Treatments Cost? She attained her Masters degree from the Anglo European College of Chiropractic (AECC) in Bournemouth, with distinction. In her final year at university, Helen presented her own research material, regarding chiropractors and their views towards gaining prescribing rights, at professional conferences to Chiropractors, Physiotherapists and Osteopaths. Since graduation in 2008, Helen has worked in private practice in Bournemouth, Bromley, Southend, Sevenoaks and Wrotham. She has developed her knowledge and clinical expertise in areas of sports chiropractic, pregnancy and paediatrics, myofascial release, dry needing (medical acupuncture) and Kenesio Taping. Helen has a particular interest in treating patients who suffer with neck related tension headaches. Having been a chronic headache sufferer herself, Helen has personal understanding of the debilitating symptoms of this complaint. Helen found chiropractic through seeking long term relief from her weekly sometimes daily headaches. She is able to not only give treatment but also provide support and ergonomic advice to chronic headache sufferers. Since completing her diploma, she has pursued studies in Reflexology, Reiki Healing, Indian Head Massage, and Aromatherapy. Her interests include creating aromatherapy oils and natural skincare products, as well as engaging in various crafts, with a particular passion for sewing. Toni Paull Chiropractic Assistant Having worked in Mental Health for the last 24 years, Toni joined The Woodland Chiropractic Clinic in June of 2021 and instantly became a very valuable member of the team. Toni loves working with staff and patients at WCC and has found everyone very welcoming. Toni’s hobbies are quizzes, walking, reading & travelling, and learning new things.
